Fix BlueMail notifications on Windows

Published

Menu names differ between software versions. If a path here does not match your phone, search your Settings app for the setting named in bold — it is the same setting under a different label.

A desktop app cannot notify you if it is not running, and that is the difference between Windows and a phone. Most “BlueMail stopped notifying me on my PC” reports come down to the app not launching at startup, or Focus quietly holding notifications back.

1. Allow notifications for BlueMail

Settings → System → Notifications.

Check the master switch at the top is on, find BlueMail in the app list below, and make sure it is on too. Open its entry to control whether you get a banner, a sound, and whether it appears in the notification centre.

2. Check Do not disturb and Focus

Same screen: Do not disturb suppresses banners entirely while it is on, and it can be scheduled — automatic rules for evenings, duplicate displays or full-screen apps are easy to set once and forget.

Focus sessions turn Do not disturb on for their duration as well.

To let mail through regardless, add BlueMail under Set priority notifications.

3. Start BlueMail with Windows

Settings → Apps → Startup — turn BlueMail on.

This is the one that matters most. A mail client that only runs when you open it can only tell you about mail after you have already looked.

4. Let it run in the background

For the Microsoft Store build: Settings → Apps → Installed apps → BlueMail → Advanced options → Background apps permissions — set it to Always, not Power optimised or Never.

Battery saver (Settings → System → Power & battery) restricts background apps on laptops when the battery is low, which is worth knowing if notifications only stop when unplugged.

If notifications still do not appear

  • Check the notification centre itself (Win + N) — the notifications may be arriving and the banners suppressed.
  • Confirm the account’s own method in BlueMail: Settings → Notifications → the account → Push or Fetch.
