How to take a screenshot on any Android phone
Published
Menu names differ between software versions. If a path here does not match your phone, search your Settings app for the setting named in bold — it is the same setting under a different label.
If your phone is not one of the makes listed on the Screenshots page, these methods work on effectively every Android device.
Buttons
Press Power and Volume Down at the same time, then release. Hold them a moment too long and you will get the power menu instead — a short, simultaneous press is what registers.
From Recents
Swipe up and hold to open Recents, then tap Screenshot under the app card. This is the reliable option when the thing you want to capture disappears the moment you touch the screen.
Gestures
Most manufacturers add one:
- Three-finger swipe down — Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, realme, vivo
- Palm swipe across the screen — Samsung
- Knuckle knock — Huawei, Honor
- Double tap on the back — Google Pixel
Search your Settings app for “screenshot” to see which your phone supports.
A whole page, not just the screen
Android 12 and newer show a Capture more button in the toolbar after a screenshot, in apps that support it. Drag the crop handles down the page and save.
Where it goes
The Screenshots album in your gallery app, and Google Photos if it is syncing.
